Celebrating America’s 250 — All Year Long
As February comes to a close, it’s a great time for us here in Cimarron to pause and celebrate who we are—Americans, Kansans, and proud members of a community shaped by courage, resilience, and heritage.
Kansas has always played a remarkable role in America’s story. From our place in westward expansion to the powerful journey toward statehood, the spirit of determination that helped shape this state still lives in our small towns, our open skies, and the people who call this place home.
This month we honor the pioneers and trailblazers who built the foundations we stand on, the broad range of heritages—Indigenous, Hispanic, Black, Asian, European, and many others—that have shaped Kansas, the rich history and culture that make our state unique, and the shared pride we hold in our community, our land, and the stories that connect us.
Cimarron is more than just a place to live—it is a reminder of where we come from and what we can build together. Let’s continue celebrating our history, our heritage, and the Kansas spirit that guides us forward.

Southwest Kansas travel discouraged due to wildfires, smoke and high winds
The Kansas Department of Transportation is discouraging all non-essential travel across southwest Kansas this evening, Feb. 18, due to extremely high fire dangers and possible dense smoke, which could greatly reduce visibility.
According to the National Weather Service, winds are predicted to shift and increase the likelihood of dense smoke between about 6-11 p.m. tonight. Travel is strongly discouraged in southwest Kansas during this time, especially in the Ford County area.
Several fires in southwest Kansas that began yesterday or last night are still active today. Blowing smoke from these fires is impacting motorists at times.
Impacts on visibility for drivers could make it necessary to close highways at times. For the latest updates on road closures and conditions, visit kandrive.gov, or call 511 in Kansas or 866-511-5368 outside Kansas.
